How to get a Prophet-5 sound on the FM-1 with Melodee

Melodee, a custom firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1, has its own Prophet-5-style engine, and the FM-1 plays it from power-on: track 1 starts on a Prophet bass, PROPHET FUNK BASS II. On the Stage screen, the four sound knobs shape it. KNOB1 is the cutoff, KNOB2 the resonance, KNOB3 the filter envelope amount and KNOB4 the amp release.

The short answer

Melodee has its own Prophet-5-style engine.

Before you start

These steps are for Melodee 1.4.1. Start from power-on with no BOOT project and no template: Melodee then starts on the Stage screen with one track, playing PROPHET FUNK BASS II. Play some notes on the keys while you turn each knob, so you hear what it does.

Four steps

  1. Turn KNOB1, the cutoff, down. Same on every Prophet sound.

    0:08
  2. Turn KNOB2, the resonance, up.

    0:14
  3. Turn KNOB3, the envelope amount, up. Each note opens the filter more.

    0:20
  4. Turn KNOB4, the amp release, up. Notes ring on after you let go.

    0:26

Close it. Make it bite. Let it ring.

Good to know

On Stage, these four knobs do the same jobs on every Prophet sound in Melodee. Turn PRESETS on Stage to try other Prophet sounds, and hold EDIT to go back to the one you had.
