The modes
| Button | Pages |
|---|---|
| FX | OSC1, OSC2 when available, ATTACK in STRIKE, OSCMIX |
| SEL | FILTER1, FILTER2 when available, FLTMIX when available |
| ENV | ENV1, ENV2, ENV3 |
| LFO | LFO1, LFO2, LFO3 |
| EDIT | MOD1, MOD2, MOD3 |
| GLO | AMP, EFFECTS |
| HOME | LAYER, ZONES in DUAL/SPLIT, PERF, GLOBAL |
| ARP | Chord pattern and live arpeggio |
| SEQ | Four-lane sequence; another press selects the next lane |
| SAVE | Target, slot and name; overwrite or paste confirmation when needed |
The sound pages follow the focused layer. SINGLE, DUAL OSC, DUAL FILT, DUAL SPRD, FULL, STACK, BINAURAL and STRIKE expose different controls. Greyed controls are unavailable. HOME and SAVE act when released; using their OCT shortcuts suppresses the ordinary release action.
Play and choose sounds
| Do this | What happens |
|---|---|
| Turn MASTER | Sets all output volume, including USB audio. |
| Use the keys outside SEQ and ARP | Enters notes through the performance’s layer routing; SAVE’s letter display does not turn the physical keys into a typing keyboard. |
| Tap OCT− or OCT+ | Shifts the keyboard by an octave, up to three in either direction; held panel notes end. |
| Hold HOME, press OCT− / OCT+ | Focuses layer 1 / layer 2; SINGL has no layer 2. |
| Hold HOME for 200 ms | Shows the layer shortcuts and lights their OCT indicators. |
| Turn PRESETS | Loads a patch on sound pages, a performance on HOME, a sequence on SEQ or a chord pattern on ARP; skips empty slots and stops at bank ends. |
| Turn PRESETS while holding HOME | Suppresses loading. |
| Turn SELECT | Selects an editable row inside the page; it skips disabled and read-only rows. |
| Turn ALGORITHM | Changes that row and opens its parameter view for 1.5 seconds. |
PRESETS opens a two-second browser. PLAY, physical keys, OCT and the four parameter knobs do not necessarily dismiss these popups. At startup Carnac loads factory performance zero; a user save over that slot remains available to select, but does not replace the startup sound.
Sequence and record
| Do this | What happens |
|---|---|
| Press SEQ from another section | Opens lane 1, steps 1–4. |
| Press SEQ again | Advances through lanes 1–4, keeping the step block. |
| Press a white key with REC off | Selects its fixed block of four steps; black keys are unused. |
| Hold OCT− / OCT+, press a white key | Sets that step as the lane’s loop start / end. |
| Turn SELECT with REC off | Walks the four-step blocks and lane rows in a ring. |
| Turn KNOB 1–4 with REC off | Edits the selected lane’s four visible step values. |
| Press REC on SEQ | Holds recording at the active playhead, or loop start if stopped. |
| Enter keys while recording | Replaces the current chord on all NOTE lanes, adding held notes up to four. |
| Turn SELECT while recording | Moves the record step through the active lane’s loop; clockwise follows backward direction when that lane runs backward. |
| Turn KNOB 1–4 while recording | Edits lanes 1–4 at the record step. |
| Press REC again | Leaves recording and resumes normal sequencing. |
The loop spans the interval between its two markers even when they are crossed. A note knob moves the whole chord and snaps it to the selected scale; its top setting can be TIE. REC with playback repeats the record step at each lane’s rate. SEQ recording can remain armed after changing pages, although REC on a sound page has no action.
Sequencer event knobs
| EVENT TYPE | What a value knob controls |
|---|---|
| Note | Sets chord pitch through the current scale, with the top setting available as a tie. |
| Dyn | Sets note strength for the target lanes. |
| Trns | Transposes the target note lane. |
| Time | Sets the target lanes’ step duration, with zero skipping the step. |
| Gate | Sets note duration in the target lanes. |
| Rtch | Chooses one to four strikes within each target step. |
| PSkp | Sets the chance that target lanes bypass a step. |
| PMut | Sets the chance that target lanes leave a step silent. |
| MW | Sets the mod-wheel value sent to the target layers. |
| AT | Sets the pressure-controller value sent to the target layers. |
| CC1 | Sets the first assigned custom controller for the target layers. |
| CC2 | Sets the second assigned custom controller for the target layers. |
| PC | Selects the patch loaded into the target layers in DUAL mode. |
| Layr | Chooses layer 1, layer 2 or both for the target lane. |
With REC off, each knob controls its visible step; with REC on, each knob controls its corresponding lane at the shared record position.
Coming from another firmware
Pick the firmware on your FM-1 now to see what installing Carnac OS does to its data.
1 · Before you switch, back up on Stock V15
- Back up first. Keep the DX7 .syx banks you loaded so you can send them again (a bank arrives over MIDI SysEx and you pick A-D). Another route: installing Baud Girl’s FM-1+VA keeps your saved stock presets, and its Device Manager can then save all 128 presets as a .syx file. FM-1+VA is closed source; install it at your own risk. It is unknown whether stock's 16 patterns come through or can then be backed up. Write down patterns you care about. To come back, you need M-VAVE's own V15 file from its download page; the installers check it byte for byte. Stock V15’s automatic pattern saves and SAVE writes may also replace ChoralRoot’s legacy sounds 1–32, VA patches, FM6 patches 1–32, CZ patches 1–32 and FM TONE patches, kept for returning to ChoralRoot 0.21 or older. Stock V15’s write locations are uncertain. Stock V15 has no backup of its own; it sends notes over MIDI, never voice data.
2 · What happens to your Stock V15 data
Possibly at risk
- stock settings (and possibly patterns)
(Carnac’s web installer writes its waves as part of installation, before you save music. Installing only the firmware package leaves out those wave writes and can show WAVES MISSING. Default settings can still be written at startup.)

On OSC1, SINGLE and STRIKE put SCAN AMT on KNOB 3 and FINE TUNE in the rows; other architectures use KNOB 3 for FINE TUNE. Filter KNOB 1 is LP-BP-HP for SH-2/MS-20, MODE for MULTI and SPREAD for FORMANT. FILTER2 is present in FULL as well as DUAL FILT and STACK.
SINGLE’s OSCMIX uses spread; DUAL SPRD keeps both oscillators and their spread. STRIKE adds the ATTACK page. MOD destination turns immediately assign that slot to the destination, replacing its previous modulation source. In HOLD arp style, RHYTHM becomes STRUM.

LFO depth sources exclude LFOs and MOD slots. SEQ SCALE needs a NOTE lane; ROOT needs a named scale rather than OFF or GENRE. The internal-tempo knob is greyed when external clock is selected.
Arpeggiate and edit chord steps
| Do this | What happens |
|---|---|
| Hold a key from F3 through F4 | Sounds its genre chord as a live arpeggio and can transpose running patterns. |
| Hold one or more white keys from G4 through G5, then a chord key | Captures that chord and the values on the four knobs into those steps and auditions it. |
| Hold a chord-bearing step and turn a knob | Edits that value in all held steps; releasing the final step restores live values. |
| Press G♯4 | Toggles LATCH. |
| Hold A♯4 and press a step, or reverse that order | Makes the step a tie. |
| Hold C♯5 and press a step, or reverse that order | Makes the step a rest. |
| Hold F♯5 and press a step, or reverse that order | Toggles its accent. |
| Hold D♯5, press a source step, then destination steps | Copies the first step into the later destinations. |
| Press F♯4 | No arp function. |
| Press REC, then chord keys | Records nearest running steps or successive stopped steps. |
| With REC and playback on, turn an arp knob | Overdubs the playing step when no step keys are held. |
| In REC, press TIE / CLEAR / ACCENT without holding a step | Enters a tie / rest, or toggles the last recorded step’s accent. |
Leaving ARP or pressing ARP again clears its recording and held-step state; a latched live arpeggio can continue. Rest and tie steps do not replace the live knob display when held.
Transport, saving and copies
| Do this | What happens |
|---|---|
| Press PLAY on SEQ / ARP | Starts or stops that transport alone. |
| Press PLAY elsewhere | Starts both if stopped, otherwise stops those running; it also works through save dialogs. |
| Start one while the other plays | Its start waits for the next shared bar. |
| Tap SAVE | Opens the matching target and its current slot. |
| On SAVE, turn KNOB 1 / KNOB 2 | Selects target / destination slot. |
| On SAVE, turn KNOB 3 / KNOB 4 | Chooses character position / character, with a temporary letter aid. |
| Turn ALGORITHM on SAVE | Selects destination slot, not its sound. |
| Tap SAVE again | Writes an empty slot immediately; a recognized occupied slot asks first. |
| At confirmation, turn ALGORITHM, then release SAVE | Clockwise selects YES, counterclockwise NO, and SAVE applies it. |
| Hold SAVE and press OCT− | Copies the live target. |
| Hold SAVE and press OCT+ | Opens confirmation to paste a matching kind; pasting does not save to flash. |
| After SAVED, use a menu button or SELECT/ALGORITHM/PRESETS | Dismisses the result without running that control’s usual action. |
| Turn any of the four knobs during WRITING or SAVED | Does nothing; the message stays on screen. |
A performance save contains the live patches and both patterns as a snapshot, alongside its settings and links. Instrument preferences remain separate. There are 128 patches and 32 of each other bank. No musical autosave runs in the background. On the SAVE page, PRESETS still loads patches, independently of its save target.
Lights and other screens
The active section button lights. SEQ and ARP blink on the beat while running; PLAY is green for playback and uses its red lamp while recording, while REC indicates either recording state. OCT lights normally show octave direction; holding HOME replaces them with focused-layer and alternative-layer hints. SAVE flashes twice per second when armed or awaiting an answer.
Held keys light. On SEQ, the active steps are dim, while the selected four-step block and playhead share full brightness on the hardware; OCT holds show loop boundaries. During recording, the note-lane chord is shown. ARP’s filled steps and function keys are dim, while held steps, playhead, copy source and active latch are bright.
Pages use runes, wave or filter plots, modulation portals and standing stones. The battery moon shows the sampled charge state and distinguishes USB host power. Themes are SAMHAIN, BLOOD MOON, FIRE, SOLSTICE, LICHEN, HEATHER, RITUAL, GRANITE and OAK.
| Screen or gesture | Meaning |
|---|---|
| WAVES MISSING / WAVES OUT OF DATE at startup | The warning lasts three seconds and says RUN THE INSTALLER. Run the maker’s web installer once (it offers Write the waves), or run the uploader’s sync from the same release. A hub-only install leaves the waves out. |
| Power on holding both OCT buttons | Calibration asks for 14 buttons and 7 clockwise encoder turns; thirty seconds without the requested input cancels. |
| Hold both OCT buttons for more than five seconds | Enters chip update mode, with countdown after two seconds in normal use. |
| Two failed starts | Safe mode keeps USB available; PLAY retries and the five-second OCT hold enters update mode. Four failed starts go straight to the chip’s own update mode. |
| Red crash display | Shows diagnostics for four seconds before restarting. |
| PERF TEST started over USB | Any button, key or encoder ends the diagnostic test. |
MIDI and USB
- Input. USB and TRS receive notes, mod wheel, assigned custom controllers, channel aftertouch and pitch bend. TRS has no MIDI output and ignores SysEx.
- Routing and panel mod wheel. Incoming messages must reach an enabled layer’s channel; controller state is shared. Changing both layer channels can leave the panel MOD WHEEL without a receiving layer. CUSTOM MOD bypasses that channel check. Panel notes and controllers play the internal engine and are not sent out over MIDI.
- Custom controllers. Turn a custom controller assignment fully down to disable it. Mod-wheel messages take priority over custom assignments; if both custom assignments match, the first wins.
- Bend and programs. Pitch bend reaches at most two octaves in either direction, even if BEND RANGE is set higher. Program Change loads the matching patch into enabled layers on the receiving channel.
- Clock. With external clock selected, Carnac follows incoming MIDI clock, start, continue and stop. With internal clock and USB CLOCK OUT selected, it sends clock and start/stop over USB for the sequencer or arpeggiator.
USB audio is stereo 16-bit at 44.1 kHz, after MASTER, using the inherited X0X FM-1 device identity. The maintenance connection supports wave upload and diagnostics, not an ordinary musical-bank editor or restore feature.
Before you switch firmware
- Back up first. Export the previous firmware’s saved work with its own tools before installing Carnac. Carnac has no ordinary patch, sequence or performance export and restore workflow. The bundled rescue tool can make a full-flash file in check-only mode without --write, but it provides no matching musical-bank restore. Keep a separate record of important settings and names; a raw capture is not a promised easy restore.
- Back up in the firmware you are leaving first, with its own tool (above). Anything below marked at risk can be written over; whether an older saved copy survives depends on how often you saved, so do not count on it.
- What installing Carnac OS does to the firmware you had before.
Show the detail
install (incoming package loader): Compares incoming program sectors and erases/programs sectors that differ; the .fwsc alone does not write PCM or FOUNDATIONS (A successful firmware install; unchanged sectors can be skipped). install completion: valid update records: After installation, scans sector tails and erases only sectors holding a valid update record. Saved music does not hold that record. This X0X loader does not skip 0x97000-0xDFFFF (Only a sector whose last 256 bytes hold a valid update record (marker 0x5441 at +6 and a matching nonzero CRC16 over bytes 2..79) is erased: normally 0xE4000 and, on the first install from stock, 0xE8000. Saved music is not at risk from this cleanup). startup staging cleanup: Erases all five staging sectors if the first 4 bytes at 0xE0000 or the first 8 bytes of the update record at 0xE4F00 are not blank (0xFF) (Other occupied bytes alone do not trigger this cleanup). update departure through running Carnac: Erases the staging sectors, then writes the incoming loader and its update record at 0xE4F00 (An installer begins an update while Carnac is running). install through the Carnac web installer: wave images: After installing and checking Carnac, its web installer writes missing or different PCM waves and FOUNDATIONS without a separate wave question. These writes can replace the previous firmware’s saved work before any music save (Only areas whose validated image identity differs are uploaded, after the device reports the target Carnac version. The supplied images erase 9 sectors (PCM waves 1), 14 sectors (PCM waves 2) and 5 sectors (FOUNDATIONS). The .fwsc alone leaves these images out; a hub-only install can show WAVES MISSING). first normal start with no readable Carnac settings: Uses default instrument settings, then saves them after about two seconds without a settings edit or replacement question. Musical banks and wave images are only read at startup (No readable Carnac settings were loaded, flash is available, and normal operation reaches the settings timer).

Carnac settings do not turn beta 2ND CORE on. With no readable older shared settings copy, it stays OFF by default. A surviving older copy can keep it ON; if a sound calculation then fails or takes too long, Felucca can save settings automatically.
- SLOOP: At risk by itself: Carnac installed PCM waves 1; Carnac performances (sounds using separate waves can change or lose parts when those waves are replaced; saved notes and sound settings remain; other writes can also erase it); Carnac layer patches (sounds using separate waves can change or lose parts when those waves are replaced; saved sound settings remain; other writes can also erase it); Carnac instrument settings. If no earlier SLOOP working loop can be read, its starting loop can autosave after about 20 seconds while stopped and quiet, even without an edit. That save leaves Carnac’s PCM waves 1 unreadable, and Carnac shows WAVES MISSING at power-on until its waves are installed again. An earlier readable working copy can still survive the Carnac install.
- X0X: At risk by itself: Carnac installed PCM waves 1; Carnac performances (sounds using separate waves can change or lose parts when those waves are replaced; saved notes and sound settings remain; other writes can also erase it); Carnac layer patches (sounds using separate waves can change or lose parts when those waves are replaced; saved sound settings remain; other writes can also erase it); Carnac instrument settings. At risk when you act: Carnac arpeggiator patterns; Carnac sequence and arp names; Carnac sequences; Carnac installed FOUNDATIONS wave shapes; Carnac installed PCM waves 2; Carnac button and encoder calibration; Carnac instrument settings. Workbench adds Open’s built-in samples right after installing it, without a separate sample question. This replaces Carnac’s first installed PCM wave area before you save anything; sounds using those waves can change. This follows Open V12’s source code; the downloaded Workbench was not checked against it.

- Bubba Machine (beta): At risk by itself: Carnac installed PCM waves 1; Carnac arpeggiator patterns; Carnac sequence and arp names; Carnac sequences; Carnac performances (sounds using separate waves can change or lose parts when those waves are replaced; saved notes and sound settings remain; other writes can also erase it); Carnac installed FOUNDATIONS wave shapes; Carnac layer patches (sounds using separate waves can change or lose parts when those waves are replaced; saved sound settings remain; other writes can also erase it); Carnac button and encoder calibration. At risk by itself, under a condition: Carnac installed PCM waves 2. With no readable earlier Bubba settings, autosave starts on. A surviving earlier settings copy can keep its saved choice.
- Felucca [Salt]: At risk by itself: Carnac instrument settings. At risk when you act: Carnac installed PCM waves 1; Carnac arpeggiator patterns; Carnac sequence and arp names; Carnac sequences; Carnac performances (sounds using separate waves can change or lose parts when those waves are replaced; saved notes and sound settings remain); Carnac installed FOUNDATIONS wave shapes; Carnac layer patches (sounds using separate waves can change or lose parts when those waves are replaced; saved sound settings remain); Carnac installed PCM waves 2; Carnac button and encoder calibration.
- PIGEON: At risk by itself: Carnac instrument settings. At risk by itself, under a condition: Carnac performances (partly lost; other writes can also erase it). At risk when you act: Carnac installed PCM waves 1; Carnac arpeggiator patterns; Carnac sequence and arp names; Carnac sequences; Carnac installed FOUNDATIONS wave shapes; Carnac layer patches (partly lost; other writes can also erase it); Carnac installed PCM waves 2; Carnac button and encoder calibration.
- FM1 Move: At risk when you act: Carnac arpeggiator patterns; Carnac sequence and arp names; Carnac sequences; Carnac performances (partly lost; other writes can also erase it); Carnac installed FOUNDATIONS wave shapes; Carnac layer patches (partly lost; other writes can also erase it); Carnac installed PCM waves 2; Carnac button and encoder calibration; Carnac instrument settings.
- FM1 Quest: At risk by itself: Carnac installed PCM waves 1; Carnac performances (sounds using separate waves can change or lose parts when those waves are replaced; saved notes and sound settings remain; other writes can also erase it); Carnac layer patches (sounds using separate waves can change or lose parts when those waves are replaced; saved sound settings remain; other writes can also erase it); Carnac instrument settings. At risk when you act: Carnac arpeggiator patterns; Carnac sequence and arp names; Carnac sequences; Carnac installed FOUNDATIONS wave shapes; Carnac installed PCM waves 2; Carnac button and encoder calibration. If no earlier Quest working loop can be read, its starting loop can autosave after about 20 seconds while stopped and quiet, even without an edit. That save leaves Carnac’s PCM waves 1 unreadable, and Carnac shows WAVES MISSING at power-on until its waves are installed again. An earlier readable working copy can still survive the Carnac install.
- Groove OS: Possibly at risk: Carnac instrument settings; Carnac button and encoder calibration; Carnac arpeggiator patterns; Carnac sequences; Carnac performances; Carnac layer patches; Carnac sequence and arp names; Carnac installed PCM waves 1; Carnac installed PCM waves 2; Carnac installed FOUNDATIONS wave shapes. The official switch first restores V15, then installs Groove OS. Treat Carnac’s saved work as possibly lost. Groove OS’s own storage addresses and record checks are unpublished, so its later saves and installs may also replace Carnac data that remains. Groove OS’s backups are not a backup of Carnac’s work.
- Who reads whose data. Other firmwares reading Carnac OS's data: X0X reads and uses Carnac OS's Carnac button and encoder calibration. What Carnac OS reads of other firmwares' data: Carnac OS reads and uses X0X's X0X button calibration. Everything else of another firmware's looks empty or foreign to the reader.
- Every way each write can happen, for all mapped firmwares: the flash atlas's table.
Carnac keeps 128 patch slots, 32 sequences, 32 arp patterns, 32 performance snapshots, their names, instrument settings and panel calibration; PCM waves and FOUNDATIONS are separate installed assets. Normal package updates leave those areas in place, but compatibility depends on their formats. There is no music autosave: save edits explicitly. Startup loads factory performance zero rather than resuming your last edits or a user replacement of that slot.
Unsaved musical edits disappear when power is removed or a replacement is loaded; pasting only changes the live item. Missing or rejected external wave data can silence dependent PCM sounds, while missing FOUNDATIONS uses a sine. The firmware package alone leaves the wave areas as they were, which can be absent, stale or foreign. Run the maker’s web installer once (it offers Write the waves), or run the uploader’s sync from the same release. A hub-only install leaves the waves out.
The installer asks before replacing a newer or unrecognized Carnac build with this version. The tagged reader converts patch layouts 5–9, arp layouts 3–4 and performance layouts 6–9; sequences require layout 3. Unsupported records look empty. Saving converted data writes the current format, which an older release may not read.
Carnac reads X0X button calibration, but it does not import X0X’s music or Felucca’s saves. Other platform forks’ calibration records use a different object type and are not carried over from flash.
After Carnac writes settings, returning to X0X can reset its whole project: settings, sound, all 32 patterns, song and knob motion. X0X rejects the newer Carnac settings without trying the older copy for its format. Felucca rejects Carnac’s record and can fall back to its own older copy if one survives. Further writes can remove that copy, so back up your work before switching. See the switching advice in this section for the affected saved work.
For M-VAVE Open and PIGEON, touching a used part of a sample bank or its header can make the whole bank unreadable, including audio outside the written area. Whether a tail overlap is used depends on the bank’s length. Back up both the session or projects and the audio bank in their own tools before switching.
Back up Groove OS projects and user sounds before switching; do not rely on a return trip to preserve them.
Installing the firmware
Installing Carnac can replace saved work before Carnac starts; unchanged program sectors can be skipped, so the actual loss depends on the bytes already present. See the switching advice in this section for the affected saved work.
Installer update-record cleanup
After an install, the update loader erases only a 4 KiB sector whose last 256 bytes hold a valid update request. Saved music never holds that record, so only leftover update data can go.
Startup cleanup
At startup, leftover data at the start of the update area or in its update request can trigger cleanup without asking; if this overlaps earlier work, that data can be lost. See the switching advice in this section for the affected saved work.
First-start settings
If Carnac cannot read its own settings, it writes defaults automatically about two seconds after detecting the difference; that shared write can replace or hide earlier work without asking. See the switching advice in this section for the affected saved work.
Later settings changes
Changes to instrument settings save automatically about two seconds after the first unsaved difference, even if editing continues; these writes can replace or hide earlier work without asking. See the switching advice in this section for the affected saved work.
Saving music
Saving a patch, performance, sequence or arp pattern rewrites its storage chunk. Saving a sequence or arp pattern rewrites the shared name list whenever its name differs from the target slot’s stored name. After every power-on, the starting factory sequence and arp pattern have names, while empty slots have blank names, so the first ordinary save into an empty slot rewrites the list without renaming anything. Foreign data can look empty, so earlier work can be replaced without an overwrite question. See the switching advice in this section for the affected saved work.
Completing calibration
For Felucca, calibration can affect user presets 1–16 and their matching FM6 patches. Presets 17–32 keep their records and patches, and calibration leaves the separate FM6 patch bank in place.
Finishing hardware calibration can replace earlier work; abandoning it after thirty seconds of inactivity restores the previous mapping and makes no calibration write. See the switching advice in this section for the affected saved work.
Web installer wave step
After verifying Carnac’s version, the web installer automatically writes missing or changed PCM waves and FOUNDATIONS; these separate writes can replace earlier work without another question. See the switching advice in this section for the affected saved work.
Uploading waves or FOUNDATIONS
Write the waves, the matching uploader’s sync command, or a direct upload can replace earlier work in the areas actually written; sync skips matching images and there is no spare copy of an uploaded wave area. See the switching advice in this section for the affected saved work.
Clearing a wave area
The uploader’s clear command erases the chosen area’s first sector, invalidating that Carnac asset and potentially earlier work. See the switching advice in this section for the affected saved work.
Starting another install from Carnac
An installer that starts an update through running Carnac writes its update staging space and can replace leftover work. See the switching advice in this section for the affected saved work.
Where the docs and the firmware disagree
- Preset capacity. Only patches have 128 slots; sequences, arp patterns and performances have 32 each.
- SELECT popup. SELECT moves within the page and closes the parameter popup; ALGORITHM opens that popup.
- Sequencer step window. Each white key selects its fixed block: 1–4, 5–8, 9–12 or 13–16.
- Hardware step brightness. On the FM-1 both use full brightness because the platform combines the two logical levels.
- Mod-wheel knob. MOD WHEEL is knob 2; knob 3 controls the first custom modulation source.
- Themes. The code offers nine: SAMHAIN, BLOOD MOON, FIRE, SOLSTICE, LICHEN, HEATHER, RITUAL, GRANITE and OAK.
- Second filter. FULL also exposes FILTER2.
- Program Change. Program Change already loads patches into matching enabled layers; it does not load performances.
- Result dismissal. A menu button or SELECT, ALGORITHM or PRESETS dismisses the result; PLAY remains transport, REC does nothing here, and keys remain notes.
- Popup dismissal. Only routed UI events dismiss it; PLAY returns first, while keys, OCT and the four parameter knobs use other paths.
- Initial performance mode. Hardware startup loads the factory performance zero after defaults, so the factory performance determines the mode; user edits are not resumed.
