What ZEN-1 does

  • Three living scenes, Sakura, Koi and Hotaru, play by themselves, and every movement you see sounds a note.
  • A six-operator FM engine voices each scene with koto, bell, furin, drop, mallet, pluck or warm sounds.
  • Notes ride over a breathing three-voice drone in the Japanese pentatonic scales In, Yo and Min'yo.
  • Sixteen white keys play notes that fit the music, while black keys do something special in each scene.
  • PRESETS picks the scene, ALGORITHM the mood, SELECT how busy it gets and MASTER the volume.
  • Five knob pages under FX and SEL set instrument, reverb, levels, nature beds, echo, warmth, key and scale.
  • Changes save themselves about twenty seconds after you stop, and SAVE stores them straight away.
  • Hold HOME for the FuMi-1 koto, which MIDI in over USB and the TRS jack plays chromatically.
