What XMOD does

  • XMOD turns the FM-1 into a MOD and XM tracker playing FastTracker 2 and ProTracker songs on up to 32 channels.
  • A ProTracker mode for MODs adds Amiga panning, the A500 and LED filters, and adjustable stereo separation.
  • You write patterns in the editor with one knob per field for instrument, volume, effect and parameter.
  • Notes come from the keys with the PRESETS instrument, and the cursor moves by the edit step you set.
  • SEL selects a block and ARP clears, copies or pastes it, with 2048 changes of undo on EDIT+SAVE.
  • Instruments carry volume and panning envelopes, and samples have forward or ping-pong loops, volume, panning and finetune.
  • Flash holds up to 32 songs in 608 KB, saved, renamed and deleted from the SAVE page.
  • Over USB the FM-1 sends MIDI clock and transport, takes transport and notes in, and works as an audio input.

What Les checked

XMOD v1.2.0Scanned October 31, 2026

What we checked for

  • The file is exactly the one its author published
  • It's the same file we saw when this release first came out
  • It opens cleanly as an FM-1 firmware, nothing damaged
  • It doesn't show up on your computer as a keyboard, mouse or other input device
  • It doesn't show up as a USB drive or network adapter
  • Its text mentions no computer command tools, like PowerShell, Terminal or a download command

What we found

  • MIDI and audio, as expected
  • A serial port, which many FM-1 firmwares keep for debugging. It can't type into your computer.
