What XANOISE does
- Nine synthesis engines fill six tracks: DRUM-X, VOICE, ANIMAL, LOFI, ANALOG, FM6, PHASE, WHEEL and NOISE, with no samples.
- The sequencer gives each track 64 steps with piano roll, parameter locks, chance, ratchets, slide and knob automation.
- Live recording with overdub, metronome and count-in keeps where you played to a 64th of a step.
- ALGORITHM picks the track, PRESETS loads sounds, SELECT walks the pages, and holding a button puts its shortcuts on keys and knobs.
- Eight projects each hold four sections and a song of up to 16 rows with scenes, autosaving ten seconds after your last change.
- Thirty-two named user presets store a track's sound, and the web editor downloads and restores songs, sections and presets.
- USB carries class-compliant MIDI and audio with every track as its own stem, and TRS MIDI and external clock connect too.
Its modes
- HOME
- You see each of the six tracks as a creature that breathes with its own audio and pick the one you play.
- GEN
- You roll a whole piece from EXPLORE, RANDOM or one of 43 genres and write it with OCT+.
- EDIT
- You shape the track's engine, its FILTER page and, on a drum track, each DRUM-X sound.
- SEQ
- You build the pattern on the piano roll with steps, locks, playheads, mutation and automation.
- LFO
- You set the LFO, the MSEQ modulation sequencer, the MOD matrix and the four macros M1 to M4.
- FX
- You dial DIST, AUTOPAN, the SLICER bus, delay, reverb, chorus and the master.
- GLO
- You set track levels and pan, the tempo, the DJ FILTER and the LIVE pages that bend the six sequences.
- SCL
- You choose the song's ROOT and SCALE, which every melodic track follows.
- SAVE
- You store sounds, sections and projects and chain the sections into a song on ARRANGE.
- MENU
- You change screen, audio, MIDI, USB and system settings across five tabs.
What Les checked
XANOISE xenoise-latestScanned October 31, 2026
What we checked for
- The file is exactly the one its author published
- It opens cleanly as an FM-1 firmware, nothing damaged
- It doesn't show up on your computer as a keyboard, mouse or other input device
- It doesn't show up as a USB drive or network adapter
- Its text mentions no computer command tools, like PowerShell, Terminal or a download command
What we found
- MIDI and audio, as expected
- A serial port, which many FM-1 firmwares keep for debugging. It can't type into your computer.
- The file changed after this release came out, under the same version
