What Tonitor does
- Each of the six tracks plays one of eight engines: FM, ANIMA, CALIGULA, RUSSOLO, DRUID, BAYAREA, HIVE and OBRADOR.
- Every track has a free looper of up to ten overdubs, with no tempo or grid, so loops drift apart.
- The white keys play the chosen track in one of 23 scales, and SHIFT latches held notes as drones.
- Per track you get a filter, granulator, crush, distortion, level, pan and sends to a master delay and plate reverb.
- BALLSY bounces balls off walls for notes, BRICKLAYER builds a step sequence, and PLAY ALONG has other tracks answer the one you play.
- Sixty-four session slots in the FM-1's flash hold every track, sound, loop and setting, plus 16 snapshots with morphing.
- MIDI arrives over USB and the TRS jack, and the FM-1 sends USB audio as a stereo master or six mono tracks.
Its modes
- ENVELOPE
- Set the chosen track's attack, decay, sustain and release on KNOB 1 to 4.
- SCALE
- Pick the root with SELECT and the scale with ALGORITHM for every track.
- PRESETS
- Save the track's current sound into one of the engine's 64 slots, or load one back.
- SNAPSHOTS
- Store and recall 16 whole states of the machine on the white keys, with a morph time on KNOB 1.
- SESSIONS
- Choose one of 64 slots in the flash to load, or start a blank session there.
- GLOBAL SETUP
- Set the MIDI channels, ports, note and CC sending, and what the USB audio sends.
- MOD
- Set each track's two LFOs and four modulation slots, their sources, destinations and amounts.
- PLAY ALONG
- Choose REACT, SHADOW or ARPEGGIO, take tracks in to follow the guide, and shape them with the knobs.
- BALLSY
- Run a sequencer of bouncing balls that play notes of the scale as they hit the walls.
- BRICKLAYER
- Build a step sequence a note at a time on the white keys and set its length, rate, harmony and variation.
