What Tessera does
- Each of the four tracks plays its own steps, an arpeggio, or one of thirteen generators.
- The generators include TURING, EUCLID, MARKOV, MORPH, ATLAS, BOUNCE, AWAKE, POLY, QUAD, CONSTL, SERIES, CHORD and ANSWER.
- Four engines sit on the device: six-operator FM6, the two-oscillator ORACLE, three-oscillator TRIO and DRUM with 808 and 909 kits.
- The step sequencer gives you per step ratchets, nudges, conditions and a pitch accumulator that climbs each pass.
- Hold REC on a generator track to print its last bars into ordinary steps you can edit.
- One key and scale cover the project, and a CHORD track plays a progression the other tracks snap to with QNT CHRD.
- A project saves everything in one slot: patterns, sounds, seeds, sections, energy and cords.
Its modes
- GEN
- KNOB 1 picks the track's MODE: STEP, ARP or one of thirteen generators, with three generator settings beside it.
- EVOLVE
- Mutates a generator's phrase every few bars, or varies steps you wrote as they play, with LOCK, EVERY, AMOUNT and the ROLL seed.
- FORM
- Strings mutated phrases into sections A, B and C in orders such as AABA, with contrast and a flourish.
- TWEAK
- Transposes, drops hits, humanises velocity and length, or follows another track's pitch.
- TWEAK 2
- Branches hits onto another track's sound, combines tracks with logic, and plays only on certain bars.
- LENGTH
- Sets how long a generator holds its notes: the step's gate, a fixed length, or until the next hit.
- TIMING
- Ratchets a step up to eight times in even, accelerating or decelerating hits, and plays each step a little late.
- ENERGY
- Shapes the whole project over minutes with a slow tide, rests and a level you set by hand.
- MODS
- Patches up to sixteen cords from any source on any track to any destination.
- MATRIX
- Shows the cords as a four by four grid of source track against destination track.
