What SID-1 does

  • SID-1 runs two MOS SID chips for six voices, three on each, with the 6581 or 8580 to choose from.
  • Patches work like C64 instruments: envelope and waveform, wavetable, pulse width and filter sweeps, vibrato and hard restart.
  • Each chip has one filter for its three voices, and filtered patches get a chip each where they can.
  • You play from the FM-1's keys and knobs, with ALGORITHM changing the waveform, filter mode or a wavetable step.
  • Nine knob pages edit the sound on the device, and SAVE keeps the patch in its slot.
  • A library of 128 patches sits in 4 banks of 32 in flash, stepped through with PRESETS.
  • Single, Layer, Split and Voices decide whether one patch plays, patches stack, or each channel gets its own.
  • Drop a C64 tune on the companion web page to pull out its instruments and sampled drums, then play the song on the FM-1.
