What SEQ-4 does
- SEQ-4 turns the FM-1 into four MIDI sequencers that play synths, drum machines and software over four USB ports.
- Each sequencer runs one of six modes, with up to 128 steps across eight pages and sixteen patterns.
- The FM-1 makes no sound of its own here apart from a metronome click.
- Every step holds velocity, octave, gate, glide, timing offset, repeats and a condition such as chance, first or fill.
- White keys are the steps and black keys the rows; press SEQ to play the keys as a keyboard.
- Record live with REC, step by step when stopped, or press REC twice to capture the notes just played.
- Two LFOs, four mod lanes, Euclid, a drum generator, a random generator and a harmonizer shape what plays.
- SAVE writes the sequencer into its pattern in flash, and a TRS jack takes in a keyboard or clock.
Its modes
- Mono
- Play a melody of one note per step, with the rows set to a scale's degrees.
- Poly
- Put up to seven notes on a step by playing a hand and tapping the step.
- Chord
- Place a chord on each step and set its type, voicing, spread, strum and bass note.
- Multitrack
- Program eight tracks of triggers, each with its own note, channel, port, length and division.
- Stochastic
- Set how likely each note, octave and length is and let the sequencer improvise.
- Matriceal
- Run four tracks of ten lanes for triggers, notes, intervals, pulses and more, each at its own speed.
- The keyboard
- Turn the keys into a playable keyboard, chord keyboard or drum pads for the sequencer on screen.
- The patterns
- See four rows of sixteen patterns and load, save, copy or empty them with the keys.
- The arranger
- Build ten songs from four lanes of slots, each a pattern played a set number of times.
