What NACHTFAHRT does

  • Eight generative Berlin School pieces play themselves from the moment the FM-1 is switched on.
  • Five layers run together: a chord Drone, a plucked Sequence, Sequence 2, a gliding Lead and an Atmosphere.
  • White keys play the Lead in the piece's scale, and three notes with a pause become the piece's theme.
  • Black keys hold eleven effects while pressed, and holding REC opens a grid of sixteen on the white keys.
  • Each layer's filter wanders in octaves around the knob you set, shown by a cyan dot and the meters.
  • A tape echo that ping-pongs, a plate reverb and a Pattern page for writing the steps by hand.
  • PERFORM turns the knobs into Filter, Wet, Energy and Sweep, with mutes, solos, Drop and Forget on the keys.
  • It saves all eight pieces by itself while resting, or at once when you hold GLO.
