What MONK-1 does

  • MONK-1 plays MonkSynth, a formant vocal synthesizer, with twelve singers from Jerry the monk to Peppo the pizza.
  • PRESETS turns through the singers, each with its own voice, drawing and stage, its mouth moving with the vowel.
  • The keys play one voice at a time: the newest key held sounds, and moving between held keys glides.
  • Velocity sets each note's level and aftertouch moves the vowel towards "ee", bends the pitch up, or does both.
  • HOME, EDIT, LFO, FX, ENV and GLO each bring up four knobs, and ALGORITHM turns the vowel from any page.
  • PLAY holds a note after you let go, and OCT/OCT+ shift the keys two octaves either way.
  • MONK-1 saves by itself a few seconds after you stop, and SAVE stores every singer's voice at once.
  • Over USB it appears as a MIDI device, sending notes with velocity and polyphonic aftertouch and singing what it receives.
