What haunted-fm1 does
- Haunted FM-1 is five generative firmwares, MIDNIGHT ROUTE, VOICEMAIL, UNTRUE STEP, HALF-LIGHT and WORN TAPE, one installed at a time.
- They share FM and formant voices, a plate reverb, a tape echo, wow, and beds of rain, crackle, hiss, wind and room.
- SELECT is the main performance knob: your place on the route, the pitch, the shuffle, the pressure or the tape's age.
- ALGORITHM sets the shape, the singer, the groove, the climate or the medium, and PRESETS picks the sound world, phrase book, kit or instrument.
- HOME, ENV, LFO, SEQ, ARP, FX, GLO, SEL and EDIT open pages of four values under KNOB 1 to 4.
- REC records a melody, keeps drum hits at the exact moment you played them, cuts a one-pass loop, or freezes the harmony.
- SAVE keeps the project, and a dot in the header means there is something unsaved.
Its modes
- MIDNIGHT ROUTE
- You compose a route of sixteen stations with a density curve per part, and the machine fills in the journey.
- VOICEMAIL
- A formant ghost voice sings chopped phrases in a call, answer, chorus and silence conversation.
- UNTRUE STEP
- You run gridless garage drums where every hit is a time in milliseconds that is rolled again each cycle.
- HALF-LIGHT
- Up to eight voices hold a chord and move by voice leading under a pressure that builds and breaks.
- WORN TAPE
- You play one loop pass and the tape wears it out, dropping notes and growing new ones.
