What Golana does
- Golana plays one analog-style synth with two oscillators, a sub, noise and five filters including MS20, a driven low-pass whose resonance screams.
- A 16-step sequencer with ties, accents and slides saves with the program, and PLAY starts and stops it.
- The arpeggiator offers ten types over one to four octaves with latch, swing, gate and steps switched on or off.
- SCALE LOCK keeps every key in one of sixteen scales, and CHORD plays a whole chord from a single key.
- Four voices run poly, mono, legato or unison with eight detuned oscillators spread across the stereo field.
- Four patch routes send the envelopes, LFOs, velocity, keyboard, aftertouch or the mod wheel to pitch, cutoff, amp and more.
- MOD FX gives chorus, flanger, ensemble, phaser and METAL distortion into delay and reverb, in three orders.
- SAVE writes any of the 32 programs with its own name, and the clock follows internal, USB or TRS.
Its modes
- PERFORM
- Play with cutoff, resonance, EG int and LFO 1 rate under the four knobs while the screen draws the sound.
- OSC 1
- Pick the wave and shape it with CTRL 1 and CTRL 2, with LFO 1 moving CTRL 1.
- OSC 2
- Set the second wave, ring or sync modulation, semitone and fine tune.
- MIXER
- Balance OSC 1, OSC 2 and noise, and fold the mix before the filter.
- SUB/DRIFT
- Add a sub oscillator one or two octaves down and set how far each note drifts out of tune.
- FILTER
- Choose the filter type and set cutoff, resonance, EG int and key track.
- SCALE
- Lock the keys and incoming notes to a key and one of sixteen scales.
- CHORD
- Turn one key into a triad, seventh or power chord and choose its voicing.
- PATTERN
- Write notes, rests and ties into the sixteen steps with accents and slides.
- ARP
- Switch the arpeggiator on, pick its type, range, latch and which steps sound.
What Les checked
Golana golana-v1.3Scanned October 31, 2026
What we checked for
- The file is exactly the one its author published
- It's the same file we saw when this release first came out
- It opens cleanly as an FM-1 firmware, nothing damaged
- It doesn't show up on your computer as a keyboard, mouse or other input device
- It doesn't show up as a USB drive or network adapter
- Its text mentions no computer command tools, like PowerShell, Terminal or a download command
What we found
- MIDI and audio, as expected
- A serial port, which many FM-1 firmwares keep for debugging. It can't type into your computer.
