What gnomad-firmware does
- Turn ALGORITHM to choose one of ten pictures, from the Gnome to organ, bells, whale and drums, holding 57 sounds.
- Turn PRESETS to pick a sound inside a picture, and MASTER sets the volume.
- Four coloured knobs, blue, green, yellow and vermilion, shape each sound, with the screen naming every knob's job.
- Press REC then PLAY for a 4-3-2-1 count-in and record a loop that goes round and round.
- Four tracks let four sounds play at once, chosen with FX, SCL, ENV and LFO.
- Press SEQ twice for STEPS, where white keys place hits and holding a key with the knobs edits one hit.
- Hold PLAY to restart on the bar, GLO + PLAY to stop at the bar end, hold GLO for fills and hold FX to audition.
- Tap SAVE or stop and wait four seconds to save, hold SAVE to undo, and connect over USB and TRS MIDI.

What Les checked
gnomad-firmware v1.0.0-r12Scanned October 31, 2026
What we checked for
- The file is exactly the one its author published
- It's the same file we saw when this release first came out
- It opens cleanly as an FM-1 firmware, nothing damaged
- It doesn't show up on your computer as a keyboard, mouse or other input device
- It doesn't show up as a USB drive or network adapter
- Its text mentions no computer command tools, like PowerShell, Terminal or a download command
What we found
- MIDI and audio, as expected
- A serial port, which many FM-1 firmwares keep for debugging. It can't type into your computer.
