What fm1-tamisyth does
- You raise a Tamagotchi-style pet that feeds on the drum, percussion, bass or lead patterns you make.
- Pick a library and you get one of its three eggs at random, growing it from egg to baby, child, teen and adult.
- A sixteen-step sequencer sits under your fingers, with the step keys tapping notes and PLAY starting and stopping.
- The screen tells you what to do next and the keys and buttons you need blink.
- Baby and child stages teach training songs such as a rock beat, Twinkle Twinkle and In the Hall of the Mountain King.
- What the pet eats as a teen decides its adult form, from boom bap, house, breaks and dub to sub, acid, disco and funk.
- KNOB2 sets tempo and KNOB3 sets swing, while SEQ clears the lane and SEL + SEQ clears the whole pattern.
- Stopping playback saves, SAVE saves at once, and pets live on powered-on time and sleep when the FM-1 is off.
Its modes
- nest
- Browse your raised pets, hatch a new egg, or open the band, moving with OCT- / OCT+ or KNOB1 and opening with SEL.
- band
- Put one pet per library together to play a song, picking a part with OCT- / OCT+, its pet with KNOB1, tempo with KNOB2, then PLAY.
- drums
- Step your kick, snare and hat pattern, switching lane with OCT- / OCT+ or KNOB1 and playing the three sounds live from the keys.
- bass
- Pick a note from the keys, set the octave with OCT- / OCT+ and nudge the note with KNOB1 while holding step keys.
