What fm1-operator does

  • OPERATOR makes the FM-1 a polyphonic FM synth with four oscillators, eleven algorithms and seven envelopes.
  • Each oscillator offers 23 waveforms covering sine, saws, squares, triangle and noise, plus user partials, fixed frequency, feedback and phase.
  • A filter with low pass, high pass, band pass, notch and morph types runs at 12 or 24 dB alongside a waveshaper.
  • The LFO reaches audio rate, so it can act as a fifth oscillator, and a pitch envelope sits beside it.
  • You play up to six voices, with Spread giving a detuned stereo pair, plus glide and a three octave keyboard shift.
  • Seven pages move under HOME, EDIT, ENV, LFO, FX, SCL and GLO, with SELECT moving focus and K1 to K4 editing.
  • A read-only bank of Operator factory presets lives in the firmware, and edits are written to user slots in flash.
  • USB-MIDI and TRS MIDI in bring notes, pitch bend, aftertouch and mod wheel, with 49 control changes mapped to parameters.

Its modes

HOME
Set coarse, fine, fixed, level and on/off for each of the four oscillators, and pick one of eleven algorithms.
EDIT
Shape one oscillator in depth: tuning, waveform, envelope, fixed frequency, feedback, phase, velocity and key scaling, and user partials.
LFO
Choose the LFO type, rate range and amount, and send it to the oscillators and the filter.
FX
Dial the filter frequency, resonance, type, circuit and drive, plus the waveshaper and its dry/wet.
SCL
Control the pitch envelope and its destinations, along with spread, transpose, glide and pitch bend range.
GLO
Set voices, volume, pan, tone, tuning and tempo, and route velocity, key, aftertouch, pitch bend and mod wheel.
SAVE
Pick a user slot, type a name with K1 and K2, and write the preset.

What we checked for

  • The file is exactly the one its author published
  • It's the same file we saw when this release first came out
  • It opens cleanly as an FM-1 firmware, nothing damaged
  • It doesn't show up on your computer as a keyboard, mouse or other input device
  • It doesn't show up as a USB drive or network adapter
  • Its text mentions no computer command tools, like PowerShell, Terminal or a download command

What we found
