What Clipper does
- Twenty-three engines and 407 sounds play one instrument, led by HYBRID: three oscillators, two filters, a sixteen-slot matrix.
- Other engines cover FM, wavetables, wave sequencing, vector, Juno, analog, acid, strings, physical models, granular and formant voices.
- A step sequencer holds sixteen steps with chords, ratchets, nudges and recording, beside an arpeggiator with fifteen modes.
- Play eight voices in POLY, MONO, LEGATO, UNISON, LAYER, SPLIT or MULTI with two parts on two channels.
- Effects run distortion, chorus, a tempo-synced delay, four reverbs, a DJ filter, master EQ, bus compressor and limiter.
- Save sounds as user presets, and work with UNDO, COMPARE, MORPH, favourites and a randomizer on the FM-1.
- Set the reference A4 between 400 and 480 Hz, pick historical or maqam scales, and load Scala files.
- Connect over USB and TRS MIDI, play MPE controllers, and use the FM-1 as a USB audio interface.

- REC
- Record what you play into the pattern, and hold it to clear the pattern.

What Les checked
Clipper v1.3Scanned October 31, 2026
What we checked for
- The file is exactly the one its author published
- It's the same file we saw when this release first came out
- It opens cleanly as an FM-1 firmware, nothing damaged
- It doesn't show up on your computer as a keyboard, mouse or other input device
- It doesn't show up as a USB drive or network adapter
- Its text mentions no computer command tools, like PowerShell, Terminal or a download command
What we found
- MIDI and audio, as expected
- A serial port, which many FM-1 firmwares keep for debugging. It can't type into your computer.

Les scans every firmware here whose file is public, and shows what it checked and what it found. A scan lowers the risk; it can't rule it out. This firmware is made by its author, not by Les or M-VAVE. Back up first, and install at your own risk. How Les scans firmware
