What CINCO does

  • Four identities cover analog brass, phase distortion keys, six operator FM bass and a formant robotic singing voice.
  • Turn PRESET to pick an identity and play it across the 27 capacitive keys, with OCT- and OCT+ transposing six octaves.
  • PLAY starts a 16-step Eurodance drum machine, K3 sets tempo from 80 to 160 BPM and K4 balances lead against rhythm.
  • K1 drives the 4d3d3d3 macro, pushing filter resonance and stereo chorus while cascading dancer windows across the display.
  • LFO latches Hat Wobble vibrato and ARP latches a fast arpeggiator and slicer, and these layers stack together.
  • FX engages Nude Tayne for crunchy bitcrushed audio, with K2 setting sample rate reduction and censor tile size.
  • SAVE commits all knob positions, the active character and octave transpose to flash, with an animated Oyster receipt.
  • HOME clears every performance layer at once, GLO speaks the corporate replies, and USB-C connects the console to your computer.

Its modes

Paul's Computer OS 2.5
The main desktop view with the dancer window, status terminal and a taskbar showing octave, tempo and the coffee meter.
Talk Mode
Plays a melodic robotic singing voice chromatically across the 27 keys.
Hat Wobble
Latches a pitch vibrato on the synth voices and swaps in Tayne's hat wobble dance.
Flarhgunnstow
Runs a fast sixteenth note ratcheting arpeggiator with a rhythmic amplitude slicer and the flail animation.
Nude Tayne
Crushes the audio to lo-fi and mosaic censors the dancer after you confirm the warning dialog.
Lotus 1-2-3 Boss Key
Hides the desktop behind a spreadsheet screen while the music keeps running.
Cinco Disk Defragmenter
Shows a cluster grid where flashing blocks pulse with the live drum steps.
Cinco After Dark
Drops into a flying celery screensaver after twenty seconds without input, waking on any control.

What Les checked

CINCO v2.5Scanned October 31, 2026

What we checked for

  • The file is exactly the one its author published
  • It's the same file we saw when this release first came out
  • It opens cleanly as an FM-1 firmware, nothing damaged
  • It doesn't show up on your computer as a keyboard, mouse or other input device
  • It doesn't show up as a USB drive or network adapter
  • Its text mentions no computer command tools, like PowerShell, Terminal or a download command

What we found

  • MIDI and audio, as expected
  • A serial port, which many FM-1 firmwares keep for debugging. It can't type into your computer.
