What analogBEAST does

  • The GOLANA engine gives you two signal paths: MIKROKORG for virtual-analog sounds and BRUTE for a different oscillator and filter structure.
  • MIKROKORG offers two oscillators, sync and ring modulation, filter and amp envelopes, LFOs, unison, glide, delay, reverb and modulation effects.
  • BRUTE adds ULTRASAW, PWM, metallic triangle wavefolding, a sub and overtone oscillator, Brute Factor feedback and a Steiner-Parker-inspired low-pass, band-pass and high-pass filter.
  • The sequencer holds 128 patterns across eight banks, with up to 64 steps in banks A to D and 16 steps in E to H.
  • SONG MODE stores 32 songs of up to 64 commands each, and ALBUM MODE holds four playlists of up to 32 songs.
  • Song commands OCTAVE, TRANSPOSE, REPEAT, JUMP, ENDSTEP and BEGIN shift pitch and replay step ranges without changing the stored notes.
  • During playback the ALGORITHM knob changes tempo, the PRESET knob selects P01 to P32 and OCT− and OCT+ transpose the sequence.
  • You hold 32 sound programs in P01 to P32 and write them permanently with SAVE on the FM-1.

What Les checked

analogBEAST v1.1Scanned October 31, 2026

What we checked for

  • The file is exactly the one its author published
  • It's the same file we saw when this release first came out
  • It opens cleanly as an FM-1 firmware, nothing damaged
  • It doesn't show up on your computer as a keyboard, mouse or other input device
  • It doesn't show up as a USB drive or network adapter
  • Its text mentions no computer command tools, like PowerShell, Terminal or a download command

What we found

  • MIDI and audio, as expected
  • A serial port, which many FM-1 firmwares keep for debugging. It can't type into your computer.
